September 2019, Hurricane Humberto came up the coast and it produced some epic swell for us for a solid week. If I remember correctly, I had just moved into an apartment for my sophomore year of college so everyone was on campus but classes hadn't started yet. Surf Club decided to take a ride into A.C for the day to try and score some. This was only my fourth or fifth time ever shooting surf, so when I got onto the beach and saw the size of these waves my jaw dropped. I had an absolute field day. The boys were scoring left and right, I could hardly keep up with the sets that were rolling in. This day was a turning point for me in my photography journey.
I think I paddled out once, maybe twice after this day after making the decision to stay on land and take photos instead of being in the water. This day pushed me to make the decision to choose surfing as my photography focus. This decision was effortless, and I'm still enjoying every second of it. A day I'll never forget!
